Step 2

The model rolled as smoothly as possible onto his back. lying on the lower section of the test sheet then lifted his arms to have the pigment applied to the underside. When the subject was on the hard floor the underside of his arms did not touch  the cloth. With the cloth and the model's body supported by the soft underlay such contact was now possible. The arms were painted after the model was in position to avoid marking the lower test sheet as the model rolled into place. A photograph was taken at this stage before the subject placed his arms into the same position as the shroud image, lying as flat and still as possible.
