The model was first photographed lying flat on his back on the hard flat surface of the floor as shown in Figure One. The model tried to assume the position of the image on the shroud.

The model was then photographed lying on a soft mattress with his head and shoulders supported six inches higher than his pelvis on soft cushions as shown in Figure Two. The model again tried to assume the position of the image on the shroud.

For both sets of photographs the camera was held horizontally above the plane of the floor at the same distance from the model.
